Hi,

Is there a normal load bearing figure in kn/m2  for the floor slabs of modern office blocks constructed in the column and slab method where the columns are situated around the outside edge of the slab?

Hi Owen,

Yes, the loading is all in accordance with British Standards. For offices, the normal live (imposed) loading, in addition to the self weight of the slab, services (MEP + ceilings) and finishes is 2.5 kN/m2 (for occupants plus furniture, etc) plus 1.0 kN/m2 for lightweight demountable office partitions.
