Civil Engineering/Plate Element Loading on Staad Pro

Question
Hi Sir,
Can i ask for a reasonable answer and a supporting document that pertains to the aforementioned subject. I was quite disappointed with my instructor in staad pro class because instead of using the pressure load for plates he used floor load area which i deemed to be wrong. I wanted to convince my instructor that really the procedure is not correct and that i have to present him an insights and a supporting document.

Hi Randel,

Actually both types of loading are OK for the plates, so long as the distrubution of the loading onto the supporting beams is correct. So I suggest you do some manual calculations to verify- I do not have a reference book/source, sorry.

Pressure for plates is very useful when you are applying wind or water loading (e.g. for design of tanks).
