Question
Assalam o allaikum sir again , how r y ? hope you are fine inshALLAH , Sir i have one more question , If There is Simply Supported beams that is those beams which are resting on another beams not on columns , In etabs there is a option of end releases i.e moment releases , question is that whether in these simply supported beams i have to release the end moments or not ?

Answer
Hi Umar,

In practical terms it is not possible to construct such a junction without any moment transfer (unless you use pre-cast beams, with steel support bearings). So, how much moment you release depends on how the rebar detailing is done and whether you are prepared to accept some cracking at the top of the secondary beam due to rotation (in this case the top rebar must be the absolute minmum allowed by the codes).

If the secondary beam continues across the primary, then do not use any moment release. If not, then you can release between 10 to 80%, but again it also depends on relative stiffnesses of the supported/supporting beams.
