Question
Assalam o allaikum , i m a big fan of yours , you have a huge amount of knowledge mashALLAH , May ALLAH give u More Knowledge and wisdom ameen / Sir I have a Question , In ACI COde there are 4 criterias of Tranverse Reinforcement for Flexural Members , The Question is whether these 4 criterias are for simply supported beams or not ? if you have any reference for this then please post this also thanks alot for your time sir

Answer
Hi Umar,

I am not sure which 4 criteria you speak of, but perhaps you mean lateral reinforcement?

Lateral reinforcement in ACI-318 is required for compression rebar in order to stop this buckling. So, if your SS beam is only singly reinforced (i.e. top rebar is just minimum rebar), then you do not need special lateral rebar- just the minimum size/spacing of links. However if your beam is heavily loaded and/or is shallow, so requiring compression rebar on the top, then you will need to comply with the relevant clause.
