Question
sir, i want to construct a  rcc column 40feet high to sport the projection of slab over external steps of main entry to masque please guide me with design details

Answer
Hi Masoodi,

For a column that tall, you will need to be carful about slenderness and buckling (unless the load is very low or you can brace the column at half-height). I cannot do the actual design for you over this forum, but the design procedure is as per details given in this website:

http://www.civl.port.ac.uk/rcc2000/

From here downlaod the spreadsheets RCC 51, RCC 52 and RCC 53, for designing columns.

If your column is slender (height/width more than 15), you will need to design for the additional moments due to slenderness. In other words, your column needs to be 2.7 ft wide to design as stocky (non-slender), otherwise you can make it smaller in section, say 1.5 ft and design it as slender.
