Civil Engineering/ETABS vertical load on shear wall

Question
In etabs could is possible to define a vertical load on shear wall and should we model a under ground tank in etabs of safe?

Answer
Hi Rahman,

1. Yes, if you want to apply a point load. make sure it is at a node (i.e. mesh the wall so, that there is a node/joint under the point load. If you want to apply a line load, then model a dummy beam (say same width as wall, and with depth equal to width), on top of the wall, and then apply the line load (uniform or trapazoidal)to that beam. If you want to apply a UDL surface load on the wall (e.g. finishes, etc) , you can do that by directly applying in -Z direction, using shell/area loads.

2. The tank should be modelled in ETABS, and then the slabs can be exported to SAFE if you want to do detailed slab analysis. Ideally the tanks should be modelled in SAP or STAAD.Pro or similar, as ETABS is more suited to buildings.
