Hi,
My question is what is 'spacer bar' and its function in pile cage reinforcement? the design is as per ACI code

Answer
Hi Liaqat,

Spacer bar is usally specified where you have 2 or more layers of rebar next to each other and you need to leave space between them for concrete to fill the space for achieving good bond.

Normally spacer bars are about 20 to 25mm diameter. For piles, if you have 2 layers of rebar, concentricly, then the spacer bar can be used between the 2 cages. Spacer blocks are used outside rebar to ensure adequate concrete cover.
