hello sir,i want know about what kind of tests r applied to check steel strength n plz tell me the procedures.

Hi, There is a wide range of testing each of test is specified for a purpose like:

- Chemical Tests to define the ingredients of specific steel alloy and to identify the steel type
- Physical Tests to govern yielding strength, extreme strength, Plastic step and stress- strain curve, young modulus,shear modulus, Poisson ratio, lamination control ,...  
- Non-Destructive Tests in the case of infield ordered steel identification

you can take a look in ASTM, DIN and your local code of practice.


To give you a view for a minimum requirement, you may get 3 samples for each 500 to 5000 KN of your steel profiles or rods.

1- A stress-strain curve along with identification of yield strength , extreme strength along with strain of these 2 critical points are very critical for an engineer to know.

2- In addition I suggest you to ask the laboratory to give you a lamination test result for your profiles an steel plates.

3- The weldability test and pulling test of welded part will give you information about the chemical characteristics of steel as a macro view.

You can reduce or amplify the rate of sampling and testing according to actual results and also the situation of your work.
