AnswerDear Anna
According to my own experiences you can follow the below mentioned trajectory, but you can have your own method regarding these guidelines:
1- to have a wide look on related literature, like papers and handbooks. Fortunately nowadays you have access to Internet.
2- Then you should have a concentrated study on selected papers and their conclusions and suggestions for further studies.
3- You can start your proposal with a brief story and summary of papers with careful referencing.
4- You will have to introduce the problem arising from your brief story: i.e. according to literature surveys summary of which has been introduced, the nonlinear behavior of diaphragms could have effects on lateral seismic loading and its distribution along the height of structures...........
5- You will have to describe your method of study, like selection of accelerograms, the software you will need to use, the extend of analyses, the method of deriving results and calculations.
5- You will have to describe the effects of the results of your study and how far you will fly, and which part of your area will be left for others to follow.
6- You will have to propose analytical or experimental studies according the availabilities in your faculty and also give some measure of time, instruments and equipment, human resource, materials required for your study being completed.
Hope being satisfactory.
