# Civil Engineering/Concentric Giant Wheel Design

Question

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concentric

Concentric objects share the same center, axis or origin. Circles, tubes, cylindrical shafts, disks, and spheres may be concentric to one another.

Is it possible to construct or manufacture Concentric Giant Wheels ?

Example

Pros : More Sitting Capacity for Riders on the Concentric Giant Wheel as riders can also sit on the chairs of the inner circles of the Concentric Giant Wheel.

Cons : Engineering Challenges for Construction, Additional Cost.

Can there can be complexities for constructing a Concentric Giant Wheel ?

Thanks & Regards,
Prashant S Akerkar

Prashant,

Q: Is it possible to construct or manufacture Concentric Giant Wheels ?

A: I do not see why it is impossible, given that it has already been constructed. Also, with the right engineering analysis it is highly possible. There have been far more complex structures.

Q: Can there can be complexities for constructing a Concentric Giant Wheel ?

A: There are many complexities for any building project. This is something I have not dealt with, but from common sense some factors are location (close to, far from, soil present etc), cost (the more high tech you make it the more it will cost) and materials (steel, electricals etc). I mean there are so many factors which need to be considered before building and it all depends on the time and budget and limitations you have.

##### Expertise

Willing to answer all civil engineering-related questions through the undergraduate level. I will explain unclear concepts and suggest approaches to solving problems, but would prefer not to completely solve homework problems for you. If you are completely stumped on homework/assignment I will do my best to try and guide you in the right direction. Also willing to give advice on issues not related to study although related to civil engineering.

##### Experience

I have studied for 5 years in Civil Engineering and have a sound knowledge of various civil engineering subjects. I am also completing my Masters in Engineering Management. I have also worked as a student consultant in the Roads and Highways Department for Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM).
