Question
in hydropower structures like desander, which is the best location for the expansion joints, i mean at the transition (the bends) or the straight portion?

Answer
dear kritam

I cant tell you a strict formulation. But I can tell you that in channels it is not ok to put joint in bendings because of Hydraulic impact due to change in water direction. In dams I prefer to put them in straight portion , but it is up to the engineer views.
