Civil Engineering/different between PGA & EPGA?

Question
dear Dr. esamilzadeh
thanks for past guidance
what is different between two value peak ground acceleration and effective ground acceleration? and how to calculate the EPGA?
thanks a lot.
regards
behzad.

Answer
Dear Behzad

PGA is not a very good parameter to show the  energy content of an accelerogram. Effective Peak Ground Acceleration is defined as 0.4 of average value of rsponse spectrum in 0.1 to 0.3 seconds.

EPGA calculated in this way show the energy content of the spectrum in high frequency. Then you can use EPGA as a better parameter than PGA to scale your accelerograms.

Don't hesitate to ask me further in the case of any doubt.
