Civil Engineering/uplift for footing due to negative pressure

Dear Sir,
Is any relationship between soil bearing pressure and uplift of the footing (negative pressure due to moment; I mean the moment create due to the horizontal force on the pedestal due to the wind pressure) Thanks & Regards

Hi Ravi,

In theory, for very hard grounds, there is no relationship. However, in reality if the soil is compressible then as the base rotates due to moment the edges dig in (settle) and hence increase the contact surface for positive pressure. This effect will be more pronounced for softer material with more settlement. To do an accurate assessment you will need to do 3-D FEA taking soil-structure interaction into account.
