Civil Engineering/Civil engineering about ETABS AND SAFE

Thanks for your time..i have some problems in Etabs and Safe....
1-what are the main difference between p-delta analysis, dynamic and static analysis?
2-what are the main difference between column and shear wall...

Hi Mohsin,

1. P-delta is a static analysis that takes account of additional moments in frames due to lateral displacement of frames- mainly applies to tall/slender buidings. Dynamic analysis takes account of secondary moments cause by the inertia effects and considers higher modes of vibration.

2. Shear walls resist vertical gravity loads as well as horizontal shear. Columns mainly resist gravity loads and some lateral loads by way of moments within frames.

I can answer any questions to do with civil and structural engineering consultancy and construction industry in East Africa and the Middle East, and specifically with the analysis and design of reinforced concrete structures. My particular expertise is in the aseismic design and optimisation of tall buildings.
