Civil Engineering/Large Raft Pour

Dear Sir,
I have a raft of size 200mx200mx1.2m. How can I give pour sequence and location of construction joints?.

Hi Venu,

This depends on the capacity of the contractor to ensure continuous pouring, but I would suggest that the joints be located at 15 to 20m centres in one direction and 30 to 40m centres (or longer)in the other. The pours should be done on a sequential manner between day-joints rather than in a  checkered pattern.

Ensure you do the calculations for early age concrete cracking and detail the top rebar accordingly. Best to use low cement content to minimise heat of hyrdration and shrinkage problems.

I can answer any questions to do with civil and structural engineering consultancy and construction industry in East Africa and the Middle East, and specifically with the analysis and design of reinforced concrete structures. My particular expertise is in the aseismic design and optimisation of tall buildings.
