Question
what is the concept of two way and one way shear in footing?why are the areas outside the column portion considered critical for shear check while the action shear is to be resisted by the portion inclusive of the column.

Answer
Dear Hani

In foundations we allways have a concept of punching and in the case of one way slab (wide beam) and mat footings we have also the conceept of wide beam shear. As I know the shear is resisted some d/2 outer of the column side.
