Question
Dear Mr.Hakimi,

Greetings,

I have an existing raft foundation with 1000 mm thickness, duo to new architectural design i have to plant new RC columns on this raft (all the columns as per the new design will be planted)

Is that possible
How i will add the additional bottom reinforcement
How i will increase the thickness of raft if needed

Regards,

Answer
Dear Maher

you can scrap the upper face of the foundation and even plant steels bars to provide the foundation you needs. For the moment you should design and find the sections and reinforcement you need. And then you may need to match the design requirement to the existing situation.
