Question
Hi
I am trying a nonlinear response history analysis on a 2d frame with direct integration method. unfortunately my model does not converge and analysis procedure terminated sooner than defined steps. and when the analysis force to terminate, all formed plastic hinges state are before "c" point. I tried many ways and changed many parameters like maximum substep, newton number but I don't have a clue.
Can u explain what should I do and show me the routine ways to obtain converge answers. (I am using Etabs 2015)
THANKS A LOT
REGARDS

Answer
Dear Mohsen

This is a very difficult process. You have certainly defined nonlinear links in your model. I dont know about etabs 2015 but look for nonlinear modal time history analysis in it.  It converges very quickly . If not use sap2000 instead which is equiped with option.
