Civil Engineering/Dams

Question
Hi,
I'm a Civil Engineering student and I am currently taking a fluid mechanics laboratory in which I have been asked to explain the use of spillways in civil engineering, but I can't find much information on the subject. The spillways I must discuss are the following: Ogee, Morning Glory (Shaft), Lateral and Parshall.

If you can give me some information or at least direct me in the right path I would be most grateful.

Thanking you in advance,
Anneleice

Answer
Dear Anneleice,

Unfortunately, the Hydraulics part of the Dam Design is not my area.

You may contact any reference, the Library at the University is a good place to start, pertaining to such area (look for Dam Design and not Fluid Mechanics) and I'm sure that you'd find the relevant information.

Sorry I could not be much of a help.

With best wishes,
