Civil Engineering/Wind Loads in Uganda

Question
Dear Mr. Arshad,
What is the Basic Wind Speed that one needs to consider for the design of Structures in Uganda.  You might be aware that the Indian Standard (IS) Code IS 875:1987, has divided India in to 6 Wind Zones and for each wind zone a Basic Wind Speed (Vb)is given.  The values range from 33 m / sec to 55 m / sec. They have given three coefficients  k1, k2 & k3 which depend on the Life of Structures, the shape of Structure and the category of Structure etc. Out of the above, k2 depends on the height above Ground.  As per the Code, we get the Design Wind Speed Vz by the formula Vz = Vb x k1 x k2 x k3 and the design wind pressure is calculated from the formula, pz = 0.6 Vz x Vz.  Where pz is the pressure in N / sqm and Vz is the Design Wind speed at the required height.  Please let me know, if a similar division of Uganda has been done in Uganda also and if so what are the values of Basic Wind Speeds at various places.
Hope my question is clear
Thanks in anticipation and sorry for the trouble
Yours sincerely

Answer
Dear Dr. Srinivas,

I am afriad I am a bit out of touch with current procedures in Uganda as the last time I worked there was some 20 years ago. I know they used to use CP3 Chap V, but they may have progressed on. As for wind speed data, I would suggest you get in touch with the UIPE, and their website with contact details are as follows:

I hope that helps!

Kind regards,
