Question
Sir,
 I am a piping engineer and wants to give piping loads to civil dept. for designing a piperack so how to calculate this piping load? is there any thumbrule to calculate it?

Answer
Hi Manish,

Just work out the self weight and weight of contents per metre run and the racking can be designed to suit. If the pipes have high pressure or flow and have bends, then you will also need to work out the thrusts at the bends, so that these can be resisted. (pressure X cross-sectional area, as a rule of thumb).
