Civil Engineering/foundations

Question
I am an graduate engineer currently working in Kenya but current assigned to a project in Ethiopia. I wanted to know if there is a specific code of practice for deep rafts foundations for depths beyond 20 metres.

Answer
Sir,

We usually do not place a raft foundation, which is classified as "shallow foundation" at such depths!

At any rate, wherever you want to place the raft, the bearing capacity of the soil, which is usually reported and recommended by the Geotechnical Consultant, is the governing factor and the applicable standards in the country you're practicing shall prevail.

Hope this helps!
