Question
how is geometry used in civil engineering

Answer
Hello Kaustav,

Geometry is used very frequently in all fields of civil engineering. e.g. to find the shortest span across the river for the bridge, to get an unknown dimension in a building plan, simple geometrical application in resolving the forces in different direction and so on.

Geometry provides a very useful tool in handling very complex issues in field and used by engineers very frequently. e.g. to find the best shape to fit somewhere e.g. manhole covers. To get surface area and slope of dome shaped roof or folded plate roof.

Now a days Structural engineers are considering complex unusual shape of the structure to provide beauty to the landscape and geometry becomes an important tool in solving these problems. You will find many applications of geometry in civil engineering by simple search in library or through internet.

Hope this helps
