Question
when ever we design a rcc column how is the width of column decided

Answer
Dear Poonan,

It's either you fix the size of the column, i.e. length & width, then check if it's within the interaction diagram, hence safe, or assume the length, then check if the width is adequate for the provided amount of reinforcement.

Please note that column design is an iterative procedure.

Hope this helps!
