Question
hi ,i wanted to know:1) how we arrive at the dimensions of a steel bracket ,say,which is supporting a beam.2)the bracket helps reduce the span.but could u also tell by how much does it do so.the first question is though of utter importance to me.

Hi Dency,

The sizing is dependant on the shear capacity of the vertical section to resist the bolts reaction and also the shear/bending capacity of the horizontal section of the bracket.

This will not reduce the span of the supported beam unless the bracket is asdeep and stiff (or more) than the supported beam
