Question
I am now living in Monroe, LA and i currently work for the dept of motor vehicle and it is a civil service job.  I am planning to move in the areas of balch springs, seagoville, mesquite or dallas texas and i am trying to obtain some information on the civil service in texas.  I would like to know the name of the civil service website to go to to look for jobs in the listed areas.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hello, Mary

I hope all is well.  Although my area of expertise is the federal government civil service, I am not aware of any transfer programs between state government agencies.  As you may know, civil services are very protective of their jobs and most vacancies have residency requirements, aside form the obvious technical skills needed to carry out the job.  So, rather than a transfer, perhaps you are just moving.  Obviously, your experience in LA will be a huge plus to break into the civil service.  But let's face it: nobody is "entitled" to get the job.  So put on your best smile and good luck with the interviews.
