Clarinet/age and value

Question
I have a pedler clarinet in original case, red velvet lining, certificate of authenti, and marching band chair assignments from the marching band it was played in. I found the part and/or serial number from the instrument itself (39595)

Answer
Hello Jim...The Pedler company made clarinets of plastic, wood, or silver...I will assume yours is silver because Pedler silver clarinets are worth more than some other brands...There are no serial number lists for these clarinets but a  Pedler clarinet with the serial number 32191 was mentioned as 1920.....You can assume that your clarinet is from 1926-30.. Harry Pedler himself retired from making instruments in 1930....As to value, people can buy clarinets from $30-40 on the internet and up to $1,100 for the best brands...If overhauled, your clarinet would be worth $300-400. depending on how it played...The "best" silver clarinet would be at best a low end intermediate wooden clarinet re. tone....Cheers   JACK
