Question
I have a final exam tomorrow at my high school and I don't know how to translate the major scales (concert pitch) into clarinet notes. Would you please help me? Tell me how to change the notes.

Answer
Dear Courtney: All you have to do is think "UP". If the "concert pitch is in C major" then take it up one whole step (or if you wish 2 half steps) so...if it's in concert C major go up to C# then to D and there you are. You play that scale in D Major which has 2 sharps in it.

Whatever scale your teacher requests you must simply transpose up one whole step or 2 half steps.

So what if the concert pitch is in B major??? Well just go up 2 half steps...b-c and then c-c# and there you are.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely....Marianne Lacaille
