Question
Hi,

Why images often split into many small parts of gif and not loaded as one whole image ?

And how do you split an image so that it still looks like one perfert page on the web ?

In photoshop ?  How ?

thanks

Jojo

Answer
Hi JoJo,

The images are split to aid in quick downloading.
Smaller files download faster, and a browser can usually download
four 10k graphics concurrently, and considerably faster than one 40k graphic.

If you have an image that is larger than 16k, consider splitting it into 2 or more slices.

Use the Adobe ImageReady application that comes with Photoshop.

1) Choose 'Slices / Divide Slice' from the menu

2) Select 'divide horizontal' and/or 'divide vertical'
to create the divisions (makes the slices)

3) Choose 'File / Save Optimized As' from the menu
-- select your preferences for filenames e.g. slice 01, slice02, etc.
-- decide if you want ImageReady to create an HTML page with
your slices positioned together in an HTML table

Your done!

Hope it comes out great,

PS: ImageReady is also a 'Jump To' application.
