Question
I had Claris Works on my Mac G4 with system 9.1, then my system was updated to 9.2 and it now has AppleWorks. When I now open an old Claris file, it says: "This document was created by a previous version of Appleworks. A copy will be opened and 'v6.0' will be added to the filename."

It then opens up the old document, no problem. On my desktop there is an alias of the ClarisWorks application (although the original Claris app is not in the computer). Question: is it safe to trash the old Claris alias?

Answer
Yes, it is safe to remove the alias to Claris Works
(your old program).

Appleworks is just like an upgraded version of Claris Works.

If you like -- you can go to your Appleworks folder and create
a new alias to the Appleworks application.

Appleworks is converting your documents to the new
file format -- it changes the name just in case you
wanted to keep the original version -- but, if you want to
have just one copy of your files, then go ahead and
save it right over the old one (take the 'v6.0' off the end
and sve it in the same folder).

Hope this helps,
