Classic/Antique Car Repair/1974 Corvette Engergency Brake Light

Question
HI,  I just purchased a nice 1974 Corvette Coupe.  The emergency brake light is always on even on the emergency brake is off.  Any suggestions on what is wrong and how to fix?
Thanks,
Marshall

Answer
Is the light just for the E Brake or does it say brakes. If the car has a double master cylinder it could be kept on by the proportioning valve just down stream from the master cylinder. Locate the cylinder and disconnect the wire from it. If the light goes out then you could have low fluid pressure in one side of the hydraulic system or the valve needs to be centered by breeding the brakes.
