Classic/Antique Car Repair/Fuel

Question
Hey,
I have a 1964 Chevy II Nova, 4-dr sedan. I was driving and then it cut off, and
now it won't start. It almost starts and then it cuts off. A friend of mine told
me that it was because the timing was off, but I'm wondering how to adjust it.
My engine is Chevy 250 Inline 6.

Thanks so much

Gus

Answer
The only time that I know of that timing jumping while the engine is running and will cause the engine to stop running is when the timing chain jumps. Now this would be an answer for your car except your engine uses gears not a timing chain. You need fuel, compression, and spark for an engine to run. It is time to check the spark, check for fuel to get to the engine and check compression and then go from there.
