Question
I need to know the right way to hook up the battery cables is it postive to postive and negative to negtive or postive to ground and ground to postive

Answer
If you are jumping the batt. you want to connect positive to positive.  That's parallel and will provide 6 volts to the system, assuming it is a 6 volt system.  I don't know how the car was designed; some were positive to ground, like the Model A, but some were neg. to ground.  If you can find and join a Packard club, you would have pleanty of help on it.
