Hi Vern,

My grandmother passed on her 1979 Chrysler Cordoba to me several years
ago. It just rolled over 100,000 miles this last April, and is in great
condition...and a joy to drive minus the MPG.   Well, when the car gets to
about 35 mph, the steering column begins to shake excessively (worse when
going uphill), stopping once I get up to 40 mph.  After having some recent
work done to adjust the steering column box and a complete brake and
alignment job, I'm surprised to see that it still occurs.


And, since the brake job, I have heard a "click" under the left front tire when I
brake quickly.  Any ideas as to what this could be?

Also, on rare occasions when I park the car, the car will "move" a bit forward
before locking into park.

I don't think these things are serious issues, but I am very aware of what this
car does, as I try to keep it in good condition.  This is more me being
intensely curious, rather than serious safety issues, I feel.

Any input would be so valued.

Hi Bethany:
If the steering wheel is shaking (and not the tires), the you have a worn steering rod. The steering rods connect the steering column to each will. These rod rest on ball joint so they pivot when the wheel turns. The the joint are worn, then vibration and shaking can occur. Also you should notice this when you hit a bump in the road as well. If not, then it sounds like the wheels just need balancing.
