do i have to buy a 1979 under dash wiring harness for my 1979 mg midget, or can i use one from an earlier year...are certain years interchangeable...??? thank you

You asked the wrong guy.  I am a Model A guy, not MG.  Find yourself an MG club and join it if you have to, but they will have all the answers.  If you can find a service manual, that may help, or call or e mail an MG dealer and ask them.  You just have to find the right person and you will get all the help you need.  I suggest you try to fix the one you have if there is much of it left.  It can't be too complicated.  The service manual would help you in that case.
Sorry I can't help you, but I know nothing about the MG except that it is a neat little car and you should have a lot of fun with it.
