Question
Hello Vern,  I blew a fuse in my truck about a month ago by testing out the cigarette lighter.  When I replaced the fuse my brake lights on the right side were not working and the blinkers were blinking to fast,  everything else still works fine.  I tried new bulbs, playing with the connection on the tail light harness, and took off the fuse panel to clean and inspect.  I also replaced all of the fuses in the panel at that time just to cover all of my bases.  Like I said everything else works fine other than that one brake light and I am out of ideas so anything will help.  Thanks. Noah

p.s. I have a wiring diagram for the truck but it has been of little help in this instance.

Answer
Hi Noah:
Often the tail/brake lights are grounded on the metal connector that the bulb goes into. If you are not getting a good metal ground on the socket, the bulb won't come on. Check that first. If all is OK, then double check the contact points on the socket.

If only one brake light will not come on, you certainly have a short or a grounding problem somewhere in that line.

Expertise

Visit my website at: http://www.classytransportation.com/ I can answer most questions about autos built in the 60's 70's and 80's. Specifically, Lincolns, Rolls Royces and the Excaliburs. Mechanical issues and technical questions are my expertise. I also have a general knowledge of most older automobiles. Keep in mind, I can only provide answers if the questions are very specific and complete. Without details, I can only speculate and that's not good for solving your problem.

Experience

I have owned and maintained Silver Shadows for over 10 years now. I find most mechanics and even Rolls Royce mechanics have very little knowledge about these automobiles. I have researched these cars in quite a bit of detail and can pretty much tell you what is wrong, if you can describe the behavior in detail. I have saved quite a few RR owners a lot of money and aggravation due to improper diagnosis.
