Question
I just purchased a 56 chevy that the generator had been swapped for a delco alternator. Seems to be charging 13.4 volts. Problem is the telltale light does not work. the bulb was removed. Put new bulb in and it stay on all time. The installer simply ran the wire from the alternator to the armature wire on the horn relay and disconnected the battery wire at the voltage regulator. I would like to know how to wire the alt. so that it charges and puts the telltale light out. Can you help?   thanks jd

Answer
I was on a Model A tour of the amish country in Ohio.  I tried to answer your question from the motel, but the system would not let me.
Anyway, I am a Model A guy and don't know much about your car.
The generator light would light when the gen. was discharging.  I think that is how they worked.  Now you have an alternator, and I think it is charging almost all of the time.  You don't need a light anymore.  He must have hooked it up to a hot wire, and it lights as it should.  If the light is wupposed to tell you something else, then I have no idea what to do.  I would just disconnect the light and go from there.
You can also find a chevy car club and join it.  They would have all the answers and you would have more fun with you car.
