Classic/Antique Car Repair/1965 Corvair 180 hp turbo , hesitation

Question
I am getting this car going after a period of storage.

The fuel system was cleaned out a few years ago but the car was not run after that. (Tank taken out drained and cleaned. Carb cleaned and rebuilt.)

The tank was full. I syphoned off a gallon or so, it didn't smell stale to me,so I decided to try it.

I found a broken wire on the coil and repaired that, also removed the cover on the float bowl and found that the aluminum plug that holds a check ball on the accelerator pump was laying in the bottom of the bowl. I epoxied it back in place made a float adjustment and the car started without much trouble.

This is a Carter YH Carb that was original equipment on the 180 hp turbo corsa.

The problem is the car has a bad hesitation at around 1500 rpm. Seems to work fine otherwise. Gets a little better when it warms up but doesn't go away.

It will idle at about 900rpm, but below that it stalls.

I was able to put about 3 gal. of fresh gas in and also added an octane booster.

I did not adjust the metering rod, or check fuel pressure.

I did put a container on the open fuel line where it goes into the carb and with a few seconds of cranking I got about 1 1/2 inches of gas in the bottom of a 1/2 liter bottle.

What do you think?

Answer
I have a wall full of trophies won when driving a like car in SCCA compatition. Now your problem sounds like it is in the carburetor. I would have that puppy off and all apart on the bench. make sure that the epoxy did not leak into the chamber and causing the accelerator ball to jam.
