Question
does a 1977 f100 have a pump in the tank .I know its got one on the block but i was wondering if it had a helper pump in the tank .my truck acts up when i go up a steep hill. i have tried every thing i know to do to fix this new pump, pulled apart the carb and check for trash, sampled the gas for water or trash, blowed out the lines,.after it acts up it will not start back and run but for just a few seconds then it dies like it run out of gas.let it set a few days and it runs fine until you hit a hill.please help im going crazy.

Answer
If it has a mechanical pump on the block there should not be a pump in the tank. There is a nylon or brass mesh sock type filter on the fuel pick up in the tanks, right on the bottom. What your problem sounds like is that there is trash floating around in the tank getting caught in that filter and after a while pugging it. Then when the engine stops and the vacuum is released in the line between the filter and the pump the junk floats away and the car starts. The last one that I found like this had a collection of the cardboard tops from the top of Drygas cans.
