Classic/Antique Car Repair/1931 model a

Question
I have a restored 1931 pickup that sat for 5 years with the cooling system open,i have replaced the water pump, put a four blade fan on, reset timing in carb and the exhaust ports are fully open, it runs well on flat surface but overheats going up hills. Any ideas as to why it would still be overheating?

Answer
If it o/heats at about 40-45 mph going up hills, your rad is plugged.  If it o/heats at low speed, but under load, the head gasket may be leaking combustion gasses into the water jacket.   In most cases, it is the rad.  See my many comments on this subject on other questions I have answered.
Good luck, we all have to fight o/heating on these cars, and until we get a free flowing rad, it is tough.
Good luck
