QUESTION: dear sir the ripvanwinkle car started per your advice the question is the oil filter/strainer is blowing oil out from the cannister I switched the canister to a sealed unit that came off a roadking and that one blew a hole in the top what should i try to get the oil to remain in the strainer also where does the steel; line connect that is on the vacuum at the underside of the distribute the steel line is in a box of parts that came off the car I can see it attaches to the vacuum but have not located where the other end should connect thanks for all your help

ANSWER: If the oil pressure is too high, the most probable cause is a sticking oil pressure regulator valve in either the oil pump or oil passages. Please refresh my memory with the year and make and engine of this car.

QUESTION: 1940 plymouth  p-10 sedaN WITH L-6 FLATHEAD OIL IS BLOWING OUT OF THE  FILTER CANNISTER AND i TRIED A ROADKING SEALED UNIT AND THAT BLEW OUT AT THE  TOP SEAM i NEED TO KNOW THE CORRECT LOCATION AND CONECTION OF THE STEEL OIL LINES THAT RUN OFF THE BLOCK UP TO THE OIL FILTER CANNISTER ALSO WHERE TO CONNECT THE OIL PRESSURE STEEL LINE THAT RUNS THRU THE FIREWALL AND ALSO THERE IS A STEEL LINE THAT CONNECTS TO THE VACUYEM LOCATED UNDER THE DISTRIBUTER AND NOT SURE  WHERE THE OTHER END CONNECTS TO ? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP

The case of the oil filters blowing up and leaking sure sounds like high oil pressure and a stuck oil pressure relief valve or as Plymouth called it Oil Pressure regulator. It is on the left side of the engine low down and is a spring loaded plunger inside the block under a large headed hex valve cap. Remove the plunger and make sure that it slides freely in its bore and that the spring is not damaged. A stuck plunger can increase oil pressure and case what you are talking about.
There is one important vacuum connection that is located on the throttle body part of the carburetor just above the throttle plates and runs to the vacuum advance on the distributor. There are two oil lines on the oil filter. the top one runs to a plug on the side of the engine in the main oil galley. The bottom one runs to a port on the block lower down and drains the oil back into the oil pan. This is a bypass filter that only filters a small percentage of the oil.
The windshield wipers on your car should be electric and there would be no vacuum connection for them. Any other vacuum connection would be after market accessories like windshield washers and I have no information on them.
