Classic/Antique Car Repair/front end

Question
Hi,
I have a friend that won a 1930 ford model A sedan in a hill climb raffle we need to fix the front end it wants to wobble  when you speed up . is there an adjustment or a part replacement.

Answer
That's a common prob with the A.  They sell a snubber. that helps, but you don't really need it.  It is just a band aid.  What I do is:
Tighten up all the tie rod and drag link ends so there is no slop in the joints, then set the toe in to about 1/8 inch.  The book says to set it to 3/16 +or- 1/16.
Make sure you have good tight king pins and the wobble should go away.  Also, take a firm hold on the bottom of  the pitman arm and pull out away from the frame and push toward the frame.  There should be no movement.  If there is, you have to put in new sector shaft bushings.  Not costly, but a lot of work.
Then the wobble will go away.  Get a copy of the Model A ford mechanics handbook and it will tell you how to fix what's wrong.  About $35 from MARC or any A parts supplier.
Good luck and have fun with your new toy.
