Question
we have a car in our shop. the car came from nebraska, and we're trying to get the title switched over to an indiana title. we have a plate rivited on the top of the firewall and a plate on the drivers side door pillar but neither plate has the vin number that matches the title. could you tell me where else it might be located?

Answer
The number on the door pillar is supposed to be the legal number for the car. You could check for an engine number on a pad near the distributor. It is possible that they used that number for the title. If that fails then I would contact the title division in your state.
