Question
Hi sir.
I have a 62 4dr falcon with a 170, I am running and slowly restoring.
I see in the shop manual that there is a 2 position lever on the accelerator pump of the carb. It states one position to be for summer driving, and the other winter.
Could you tell me what this is for, and what it really means in the scheme of things, and if I should bother messing with it??? Not a problem, just a bit curious.
Thanks in advance for the help.  Dana

Answer
Back in the day when i was an instructor for Ford Motor Company (50's and 60's) in New England did we mess with the accelerator pump adjustment. Theoretical it was to increase the flow of fuel into the intake manifold when the gas pedal was pushed down in cold weather. You needed more fuel, like pulling out the choke, to keep a cold engine running. Unless you are in Alaska with temperatures at 40 below I would not mess with it.
