Classic/Antique Car Repair/oil leak

Question
I purchased a 1952 chevy half ton with the original motor and transmission, my problem is it has a oil leak and it drips from the guard under the transmission. I have had it in and had a rear main seal replaced.
one gentleman said he believed the leak also had the smell of gasoline in it. Are these trucks common for leaks?

Answer
Make sure that the oil is not leaking higher up on the engine like the valve cover or the side plate cover and running down the block and dripping off the lowest point. Also the breather/oil fill tube on the side of the engine has a tenancy to plug up. When this happened pressure built up on the oil pan and caused oil to be forced out of the rear main
