Classic/Antique Car Repair/vw baja bug

Question
I just got a 72 Baja Bug running and its spitting out oil out the dip stick. What causes this, the oil pump, or is it something else?

Answer
Trevor, you've either got too much oil in that bugger, or the crankcase vent is plugged! You should have a hose running from the oil filler pipe to the carb or to a vent box or filter element. There should be a louvered square tin plate sandwiched between the filler pipe/generator stand and the crankcase itself, where the stand bolts. Check to see that the case can vent.
