Classic/Antique Car Repair/1940 La Salle

Question
"Hello"
I have a 1940 LA Salle. Need to replace horn wire and top bearing.
Would also like to remove the column, but it look like it is pressed onto the gear box.
                                  Thanks  Gabe

Answer
According to my reference material this rig runs a Saginaw gear box. There should be a clamp around the lower part of the column where it slips over the gear box. the bolt for the clamp is usually underneath the column. Loosen the clamp and the column should slide off. Then you are home. The outer jacket probably will not have room to slide off the shaft with the gear box attached to the frame.
