Question
I have a Ford 302 with a 2 barrel motorcraft carb. This is a low mileage engine that has developed a miss through out the driving speeds. I have replaced plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, rebuilt the carb, removed and cleaned the fuel tank, replaced all fuel filters, checked all vaccume hoses, retorqued the intake bolts reset the timing and it still has a miss.Do you have any suggestions? Thank you for your time..

Answer
Based on what you have replaced, there is only two things left...

1. My first guess would be a bad Ignition Coil. The Ignition Coil is the source of ALL power and if its not generating enough power, it will miss and even shut the engine down completely sometimes.

2. The other possibility is a bad fuel pump. If the pump is not pumping fuel at the correct pressure anymore, you are not getting enough fuel to the plugs. The pump maybe missing a stroke every now and then, which would cause the plugs to fire, but no fuel to burn.

Expertise

Visit my website at: http://www.classytransportation.com/ I can answer most questions about autos built in the 60's 70's and 80's. Specifically, Lincolns, Rolls Royces and the Excaliburs. Mechanical issues and technical questions are my expertise. I also have a general knowledge of most older automobiles. Keep in mind, I can only provide answers if the questions are very specific and complete. Without details, I can only speculate and that's not good for solving your problem.

Experience

I have owned and maintained Silver Shadows for over 10 years now. I find most mechanics and even Rolls Royce mechanics have very little knowledge about these automobiles. I have researched these cars in quite a bit of detail and can pretty much tell you what is wrong, if you can describe the behavior in detail. I have saved quite a few RR owners a lot of money and aggravation due to improper diagnosis.
