Question
I have a 1952 Chevrolet 235 inline 6 mounted in a 1951 body with no powerglide tranny. I have a carter downdraft carb which the manual says is for 1940's models. It also says a gm model b is for the models 1950-1951. Is this the same carb for the 1952? Which carb is right? The truck is a 3500.

Thanks

Answer
The Carter YF series carburetor was listed as a replacement carburetor for through 235 engine up through 1963. The truck could have had either a Carter or Rochester on it when new. Rochester carburetor division of General Motors was a relatively new entity in 1952 and the production was not up to supplying the total needs of GM. For instance the 1953 Chevrolet Corvette ran carters on the 6 cylinder engine.
