Question
Hi,
I am trying to find a way to obtain history on a car I have bought. its a 1968 Ford Fairlane 500 fastback.  Is there a way to track its history, previous owners, states etc?
Thanks
Nick.

Answer
Hi Nick:
Not really. Vehicle VIN# tracking didn't start until 1982.
Prior to 1982, most car owner had to ensure that records
from the previous owner came with the car.

The VIN# is registered with each DMV where the car was operated.
If the previous owner can tell you who they brought the car from,
you can them who they broght the car from and its history, and so on.

I have two cars that came with little or no history so I
found an old document under the seat and in the glove box
of each vehicle that got me started
searching for the person that once own the car.

Expertise

Visit my website at: http://www.classytransportation.com/ I can answer most questions about autos built in the 60's 70's and 80's. Specifically, Lincolns, Rolls Royces and the Excaliburs. Mechanical issues and technical questions are my expertise. I also have a general knowledge of most older automobiles. Keep in mind, I can only provide answers if the questions are very specific and complete. Without details, I can only speculate and that's not good for solving your problem.

Experience

I have owned and maintained Silver Shadows for over 10 years now. I find most mechanics and even Rolls Royce mechanics have very little knowledge about these automobiles. I have researched these cars in quite a bit of detail and can pretty much tell you what is wrong, if you can describe the behavior in detail. I have saved quite a few RR owners a lot of money and aggravation due to improper diagnosis.
